coach Walid Mahran is a Maître d’Armes of Fencing, olympian, and has over 40 years of fencing experience.

As an athlete, Mahran served as a member of eight Egyptian World Championship teams (Junior and Senior). After winning the Gold medal in the 1989 Junior World Cup in France, Mahran reached Top Ten world ranking (Junior). Mahran also won the Gold at the Arab Games the same year, competing against and defeating fencers from 15 countries. In 1988, 1992 and 1996, Mahran qualified for the Olympic Men’s Foil team from Egypt. During his time as one of the best athletes in his field, he won over 40 medals in international competitions and over 150 medals in National competitions in Egypt.

Mahran was trained by renowned coaches, such as Michel Perrin (France), Istvan Marton (Hungary), German Sveshnikov (Russia), and Amgad Khazbak (Egypt).

As a coach, Mahran has served the Atlanta area since 1993. He worked at the Atlanta Fencers Club for a couple of years, but soon he established his own club, Lotus Fencing Academy. In addition to his coaching, Coach Mahran also has fencing programs at Woodward AcademyThe Galloway School, and Pace Academy. He also directs fencing classes at the Barney Medintz summer camp, and acts as a consulting coach for the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Additionally, Walid taught clinics at the U.S. Air Force Academy and often directed and organized the Academy’s tournaments.

Walid Mahran’s coaching success is clearly evident in his students’ results. Since 1993, his athletes have won over 80 medals in national and international competitions. Coach Mahran has received the USFA’s Coaches Medal many times since 1997, for his students’ gold medals in Summer Nationals.


Jesse mones

Jesse Mones is a talented fencer who has been honing his skills since a young age. As the son of a collegiate fencer and coach, Jesse was introduced to the sport early on and quickly showed a natural aptitude for it.

Throughout his formative years, Jesse trained relentlessly, dedicating countless hours to perfecting his technique and strategy. His hard work and commitment paid off when he earned a scholarship in fencing to St. John's University.

At St. John's, Jesse continued to shine as a fencer, quickly making a name for himself as a formidable opponent. He consistently demonstrated his skill and tenacity on the fencing strip, earning the respect of his teammates and coaches alike.  He qualified for NCAA championships as a junior and finished in the top 16. 

Jesse's achievements in fencing have been nothing short of impressive. His speed, agility, and precision make him a force to be reckoned with, and his dedication to the sport is unmatched. With his natural talent and unwavering determination, Jesse is sure to continue making waves in the fencing world for years to come.

After a successful college career, Jesse Mones has now turned his focus to coaching youth fencers. With his years of experience and expertise in the sport, he is dedicated to helping young athletes develop their skills and reach their full potential.

As a coach, Jesse brings a unique perspective to his training. He understands the dedication and hard work required to succeed in fencing, and he is passionate about instilling these values in his students. He believes that with the right guidance and support, anyone can excel in the sport.

Jesse's coaching style is both rigorous and supportive. He works closely with each of his students to develop their strengths, identify their weaknesses, and create a training plan tailored to their individual needs. He emphasizes the importance of technique and strategy, while also encouraging his students to push themselves and take risks.

Through his coaching, Jesse hopes to inspire a new generation of fencers and help them achieve their dreams. With his passion, skill, and dedication, he is sure to make a lasting impact on the sport of fencing for years to come.
