Athletic Club Northeast
With over 50 active members, ACN is the main base of operations for Lotus
Fencing academy. Members of the club are free to practice during any of our
hours of operation to take lessons, practice footwork, drill a new technique
with a partner, and, of course, fence. All lessons are scheduled during
these hours.

Membership Information
There are different options available at ACN Atlanta; the flexibility
of the occasional recreational fencers or the serious competitor can work
out a schedule that works for them.

Lessons
Competitive fencers take at least three lessons a week. Lessons are provided
Tuesday through Saturday.
Lessons Schedule
2008-2009 - updated 2008-06-09
Recreational fencers take lessons, based on
availability. Lessons are provided Tuesday through Saturday.
A private lesson comes in many forms:
1) footwork,
2) directed drills with two or more students
3) the traditional lesson with bladework.
The coaches’ schedules are quite busy, so please sign up for your lesson
time in advance and cancel with 24 hours notice.
Fitness Classes
Fencers are eligible to take fitness classes when officially enrolled
into the program, e.g. taking minimum one lesson per week and are members of
the club.
Saturday Fitness Class
is open to both competitive and recreational fencers. The class takes place
on Saturdays, 2 - 3 PM.
Competitors Fitness Class
is open to competitive fencers only. The class takes place on Wednesdays 8 -
9 PM.
Equipment
New students can use club equipment until they decide if this is the
sport for them. Once a fencer decides to practice regularly, he or she
should invest in some quality equipment.
You don’t have to buy it all at once.
Start with a good foil. This is absolutely necessary when you start
fencing “electric” (using a scoring vest and the attached wires that help
keep score of your fencing bouts). Most fencers then invest in a mask and a
glove. Over time, fencers can outfit themselves with a complete array of
good equipment.
Where do you buy it? We recommend Absolute Fencing Gear
(www.absolutefencinggear.com) fencing equipment. They are on the internet, but it is easier to have Walid Mahran,
head coach of ACN, order it for you. If you like to shop around, feel free
to surf the web-you’ll find dozens of equipment vendors running mail-order
businesses.
